Commemorative paintings

While I've made it a point to paint something for various events throughout these past months, I've neglected to post them here! So here are my paintings for Halloween and International Self Portrait Day, as well as this year's Christmas card. Happy holidays and a great new year, everyone!

Halloween!

And while this one doesn't go with any holiday (I think!), it was still great fun to do. A cover for the Warhammer 40000 Sisters of Battle Codex :)

Livestream paintings & a new LoC set

Here are some of the things I've been painting during my live streams. First a still life of Sailor Moon's Moon Stick, which I just happened to have lying around ;)

These other three are based on Pokemon Fusion, a fun little tool that (randomly) merges two Pokémon from the first generation, often creating terrifying results.
You can watch the process for all of these on my livestream channel!

And lastly, here is another set of cards I did for Applibot's Legend of the Cryptids a while back, which was recently released.

Magic potions still life

First off, some quick portrait studies from various photo references. Each one took about 15-20 minutes.

This still life setup was supposed to somewhat resemble a wizard's desk. I'll probably try something like that again at some point - once I've gathered a lot more magical-looking stuff!

Since I always love a good zombie/infected story, I quite enjoyed The Last of Us. So here's a portrait sketch of Joel! On my LiveStream channel you can watch most of the process (after the stream I looked at some reference and edited my sketch to get a closer likeness).

Studies, Sketches + Brush!

First off, here are two quick landscape studies, done to test out some brushes. You can watch the entire process of the second one somewhere towards the end of this recorded livestream.

This one was an exercise in brush economy, based on photo reference by kouma-stock. It was done in a little more than 4 hours over the course of ten days.

And finally, another quick ASoIaF character portrait, this time of Stannis Baratheon. You can download the the sketching brush I used for most of this one and The Old Bear from my deviantArt sta.sh !

IFX, LoC, ASoIaF

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of creating a workshop for ImagineFX magazine. In the article I give some insight into my process and share tips about painting fabric in motion. The issue is on sale right now - this is one here:

... and this is what the my workshop looks like:

You can watch a preview on Youtube and buy the issue here :)

On an unrelated matter, this is my first set of illustrations for Legend of the Cryptids, which recently got released. They were so much fun to work on!

And finally, a one-and-a-half hour warm-up sketch of Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch from A Song of Ice and Fire. I'm a huge fan of the books, so this guy is based on how I imagined him from the descriptions. I love the TV series as well though :)

Quick Sketches & Livestream!

I've been a little busy lately, but there always has to be time for some studies! So here we go, some faces, horses and landscapes from photo reference:

And a couple of quick-ish sketches from imagination! I did these to prepare for my first ever livestream broadcast.

If you're interested in watching me paint live and possibly asking me some (not necessarily) art related questions, please check out my livestream channel. I don't have a fixed streaming schedule at the moment, so the best way to know when exactly I'll be live is to follow me on Twitter. The next time will probably be somewhere around the weekend again - until then you can watch this last weekend's exploits on demand. Looking forward to seeing you around! :)

Studies

After a pretty busy month I had time to do some of studies again these past few days. First off, a skull from life - experimenting with a red lamp, 2 hours each.

These really go to show what a big difference a good lighting setup can make. The first one (besides being quite painful to stare at for such a long time) looks a lot less interesting than the second one, doesn't it?

In these two quicker photo studies I played around with texture brushes and the smudge tool again.

Sparks

Yay, I managed to fit in another personal illustration! There wasn't much planning behind this one, which can be really refreshing sometimes.

And, as usual, studies! Playing around with brushes again. The references for the last two are from Chonastock on deviantArt - great pictures for doing studies there!

2013!

To start the new year off right, here's the painting I did for CobraVenom, who won my little giveaway on deviantArt :)

Quick-ish environment studies! I used brushes from Jaime Jones' brushset (among others I can't remember now - sorry!) as well as some basic PS ones.

Oh, and by the way - welcome to all my new followers and a huge thank you for your support to the old ones ;) You guys are awesome!
